Humour in Wedding Photography
Today’s Friday Photo (on a Monday) comes to you sponsored by the superior caffeine hit delivered by my new DeLonghi Scultura Espresso Coffee Maker (Black). Even my internal organs feel jittery. In fact, if my chest could somehow manifest the ability to think those thoughts would be skittish, slightly paranoid and racing. Luckily it can’t and my head and my actual thoughts just feel coated with some kind of slippery go-faster application. But that’s really beside the point. Right now I want to talk to you about this image and why I like it and why I took it like this. I took it from behind really because the face would have carried too much information. Taking away the face simplifies the photo and allows the nice oddball humour to come through more clearly. This way we can just focus on the tissues in his ears (to dampen the sound of the wedding band inside the barn) and his hands, which has something of the cheeky, end-of-the-pier British humour about them, clasping himself, Kenny Everett-style. The guy had a brilliantly angular Catweazel-type face, but, in this instance, if I’d shown that it would have actually been too much.
Stay tuned for next week’s post which will be sponsored by the Aerobie AreoPress Coffee Maker…
