Jo and Will got married at Hackney Town Hall on 9 December 2023. Jo got ready at Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, before everyone headed to Hackney for the ceremony and a reception in the North Atrium.

Jo turned out to be a head nurse, which made immediate sense once I knew. She had that effortless combination of brisk, warm and purposeful that you’d very much want in the person looking after you in hospital. A sort of: I’ll laugh if it’s funny, otherwise there are several things that actually need doing.

The kind of person where, if one of my jokes didn’t land, I could at least imagine thinking: fair enough, but more importantly she’ll be back in a minute with my medical charts and a clear explanation of what happens next.

Her brother, Will Poulter, was there too. He seemed to have a very easy understanding of the fact that people might recognise him, while also making sure it remained entirely his sister’s day.

There’s a photograph of him showing his new nephew his socks that I particularly like. Celebrity has its uses. Apparently socks are one of them.
