East London Weddings | Ian & Gabrielle
East London Weddings — The Royal Inn on Victoria Park, E9
I loved this wedding. And not just because Ian and Gabrielle are two of my closest friends and I was also there as a guest. I loved it because it felt like a good old fashioned wedding. A brilliantly happy wedding ceremony and then just a big party for friends back at the pub. I also love it for the fact that Gabrielle was 27 minutes late for the 30 minute ceremony in Hackney Town Hall. And that there was jerk chicken for the wedding breakfast. And a big green wedding cake. Or that my wife fell down the Royal Inn stairs at some point but still managed to look like she was posing for a Vogue shoot at the bottom of them. Or that Paula mysteriously spent the last part of the night wearing a pig nose. Or that there were top-hatted taxidermied mice as a wedding topper. Or that the bridal prep shots with Gabrielle were more boudoir meets 70s fashion photography. Or just simply that I got to photograph Ian’s wedding, who was the first person I got to know when I moved to London Fields five years ago. Either way, it’s pretty safe to say that I enjoyed this wedding. And you know it’s not always easy to shoot a wedding as half-guest / half-photograper. You’re wearing two hats. (Not actually two hats, mind you, that would be a bit too Mighty Boosh for a wedding photographer, even in Hackney.) It’s just you don’t know whether to socialise or take pictures. But the remit for this one was simply ‘get some lovely photos of the wedding, and then get some great dancefloor shots.’ So that’s what I did.
Along with those shots of Gabrielle’s legs…

Stellar work Nick. Only you could have photographed this wedding;l the images have a certain joie de vivre and there’s an air of hedonism running through, right from that very first image, which to my eye is very Helmut Newton-esque. I take my (2) hat(s) off to you.
Thanks Lyndsey. You’re right, there was a healthy dose of hedonism running through the day. And well into the night!
I’m crying like a child
Sexy gorgeous bride. Love the dress and green shoes! (All the best brides wear green shoes) You have caught all the laughter, smiles, and dancing, looks like a really fabulous day, and you fulfilled the brief wonderfully. Great wedding!
good old fashioned photography. perfectly timed, and timeless. phenomenal work.
Mate, so good. Leaving aside the brilliant documentary work those prep shots of Gabrielle and her endless legs are truly amazing. You’re a unique photographer my friend, don’t go changing, ever.
Thanks everyone. These comments mean a lot!
Nice job Nick!
