Composition and Character: Friday Photo

Honestly, I could have chosen any one of two dozen images from last week’s wedding for today’s Friday Photo (and may still do that in the future) but this one just edges it for me right now.  Tomorrow it might be different.  These things mean different things to you on different days.  I don’t want to unpack the entire image, even to myself.  Sometimes the beauty of a photograph is its element of mystery, that ineffable quality that eludes meaning.  Also, as my dad would say, if you could perfectly describe a photograph it wouldn’t really need to be a photograph.  A bit of background to this photo is it’s Anna and Adam on the morning of their wedding.  After their First Look on the beach in North Wales.  So there are still pre-wedding nerves in the air.  It’s before the ceremony, and that’s the space Adam is in for me.  He’s a quiet character anyway so the fact he’s stood alone, still and upright, in the middle of the frame is fitting.  The fact that Anna is in a kind of curved motion works in the context of her too.  She radiates a soft, relaxed energy that immediately puts people completely at ease (and is one of the reasons she’s such a great wedding photographer).  Then, added to that I love the graphic curves the car door and frame gives this image.  And that’s it.  I said I’d be brief.  Mostly I just want this photo to speak for itself…
