Iceland Wedding Photographer

Well, where do you start with a wedding like this?  Apart from to admit to feeling thoroughly spoiled by this embarrassment of riches.  And it wasn’t just one day, either.  Because Olivia and Matt and their wedding party are American and everyone was flying in from the U.S., it was a three day event.  On the Tuesday we arrived in Reykjavík and were promptly transported to the The Blue Lagoon — the mind bendingly beautiful and calming natural geothermal spa on the outside of town, and my new ‘happy place.’  Wednesday was an incredible chartered helicopter excursion with Matt and Olivia and her father and uncle.  The journey took in volcanic craters, glaciers and the sea, and stopped at each point along the way — including a skittish false start on a glacier when the helicopter started to slide sideways down the slope.  Then on Thursday, the wedding and main event in a beautiful two hundred year old Lutheran church surrounded by mountains and lakes.  The landscape of Iceland is beautiful and otherworldly with a kind of subdued hard living vegetation.  The light blisteringly bright but don’t let that fool you.  It was absolutely freezing.  But, somehow, perfectly freezing.  The whole thing was a perfect backdrop to Olivia and Matt’s gently Wes Anderson themed wedding (and really, is there a better theme out there?).  The two of them were so warm and happy and cocooned in each other’s love.  But as if that wasn’t enough Olivia has an extraordinarily talented music family who performed showtunes and numbers of their own composing.  And as if THAT wasn’t enough the national Finnish all-male choir who had been practicing upstairs came down and serenaded them.  Because that’s the kind of wedding it was.  Enjoy…
